本片為「德國新電影女將」瑪格麗特．馮卓塔之最新作品，主角是20世紀最偉大的女思想家漢娜鄂蘭。1960年一場世紀審判在耶路撒冷展開，被告是「希特勒的劊子手」艾希曼。漢娜親臨審判撰寫報導，聽著艾希曼的自白，她發現大家眼中的惡魔也只是「依法行政」的平凡人。回紐約後漢娜排除自身背景，冷靜地理析納粹之惡、提出「邪惡的平庸」，更指出猶太人是大屠殺的共犯。文章一出輿論譁然，讓她飽受攻訐；但她毫不畏懼，持續捍衛思想並終生論述邪惡本質。
Directed by New German Cinema's most prominent female filmmaker Margarethe von Trotta, the film takes a look at the life of philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt, who claimed that Eichmann did not speak or think like a genocidal maniac yet he acted like one nevertheless during war time, and coined the phrase “banality of evil” in blaming Jewish is the actual accomplice of the Holocaust. Despites the massive criticism, Hannah Arendt still fearlessly defended her own point-of-views.
